Basic equipment of a dental office and clinic

Opening a dental office is not as difficult as it seems at first glance. It is important to carefully plan a budget in which equipment for the dental office will be one of the leading expense items.

A small office, unlike a specialized clinic or center, does not require large investments. If you are a novice businessman who does not have impressive financial baggage, then a dental office can be a successful start to a business. You will need less money, since this option requires a small room with a minimum set of high-quality equipment (this is due to the range of services, for example, in a clinic the list of manipulations performed by doctors is many times larger). In the future, as you gain practical experience in running a business, as well as additional funds in the form of earned profits, you will be able to open, for example, a clinic with a more expanded range of services provided.

But what you shouldn’t save on initially is the equipment with which you will treat patients. It is necessary that the equipment meets internationally accepted standards and is equipped with all first-class materials to provide high-quality dental services, regardless of the complexity of the procedure. Comfort during the provision of services and, as a result, the health of clients largely depends on the equipment.

All equipment for a dentist’s office can be divided into three groups: technological, commercial and office. Below we will look at each type in detail.

Basic equipment needed for a dental office

Before you begin to select, purchase and equip a dental office, draw up an estimate and send requests, you need to study the necessary list of equipment for the office and clinic.
There is a minimum that every dentist needs. And the better and more reliable the set of dental equipment

, the simpler, more convenient, more successful and safer his work will be, and accordingly, the more successful and prestigious the entire dental clinic, center, office will be.

  4. Miller needle. Diagnostic tool for examining the patency of the root canal.

Technological equipment of a dental clinic

Technological equipment includes dental units and installation technology; in addition, regular purchases of consumables, filling preparations and tools for work are necessary.

Basic equipment of dental clinics (types):

Dentist chair

We are talking about a dental unit - a chair for the patient; not a single dentist can do without it.

Such professional dental equipment

varies by drive type. Mostly models with hydraulic or electromechanical drive are sold. Typically, the installation is equipped with at least 4 hoses:

  • for a gun (spray, water or air is supplied);

This is equipment that allows you to take the most accurate picture of a tooth. The picture immediately appears on the computer screen to which the visiograph is connected. Radiation is minimal. Prices for various visiographs start from 150,000 rubles. There are models for 400,000 rubles and above. Differences:

  1. Cheap models have a CCD matrix, which does not give a very clear image.
  2. Expensive models have an image sensor with greater sensitivity, so you can enlarge the image without losing its quality.
  3. A regular visiograph allows you to take a picture of 3 teeth at once, and more advanced models take periapical (sighting) and bitewing (occlusal) pictures.

Features of the Vector device for the treatment of periodontitis

As we said above, here we are talking specifically about the Vector Paro device, which is designed to remove subgingival dental plaque in periodontal pockets. Vector therapy in dentistry has 2 key features that fundamentally distinguish it from the use of traditional devices for ultrasonic teeth cleaning.

  • The first feature is that the vibrations of the working tip of the tip here occur strictly vertically, and not horizontally as with conventional ultrasonic scalers (Fig. 4-5). The manufacturer claims that this significantly minimizes damage to the tooth root surface. This is true, but only in comparison with cleaning dental plaque with special hand instruments (curettes), or cheap low-quality ultrasonic scalers, the tip of which can perform circular or elliptical vibrations.

    In a high-quality ultrasonic scaler, the tip of the nozzle should only oscillate linearly in one plane, and in this case there is practically no negative effect on the cement of the tooth root. Such linear oscillations can only be performed by piezoelectric ultrasonic scalers, for example, EMS (Piezon), Satelec and some others.

  • The second feature is that if the operation of a conventional ultrasonic scaler requires ordinary distilled water, then for procedures on the Vector Paro device, a special solution “Vector Fluid polish” is used.
    It is a suspension containing hydroxylapatite and calcium phosphate. These particles are abrasives (with an average grain size of about 10 microns) and remove tartar and polish the root surface. Comparative studies in which ordinary distilled water was also used during procedures with the Vector Paro device showed that in this case the quality of dental plaque removal significantly deteriorated (it was definitely worse than after procedures using a conventional ultrasonic scaler). It should also be noted that Vector Fluid polish contains parabens, so it should not be used in patients allergic to this preservative.

Important: later in the article we will compare the effectiveness of Vector therapy with the effectiveness of periodontitis therapy using conventional ultrasonic scalers. And in this we will be helped not only by the personal experience of the author of the article, but also by the scientific research base. In addition, below I will tell you about the pros and cons that only a practicing periodontist can know about.

Instruments for prosthetics

To perform high-quality prosthetics, you need the best equipment. The following tools are included in this category:

  1. Cutting instruments for preparation (mechanical). Used when working with hard tissues;
  2. Tools for modeling (dental). Used in the processing of orthopedic devices;
  3. Impression trays. Materials for taking an impression of the entire jaw or its individual rows;
  4. Dismantling tool. Necessary for removing old crowns;
  5. Micrometer. Designed to determine crown thickness;
  6. Auxiliary equipment. Tools for mixing the solution when installing crowns;

Tools for correcting bite

An orthodontist's instrumentation is very different from previous types of equipment. This specialist’s office should have the following tools:

  1. Equipment for cutting overgrown tissue. Used to free poorly erupted teeth. As a rule, they are applicable in pediatric dentistry, but there are cases when they cannot be avoided in case of pathology of teething in adults;
  2. Distal and ligature cutters. Used when shortening the distal arch and cutting the metal ligature;
  3. Dismantling pliers. Used to remove crowns and braces;
  4. Reverse grip tweezers. A tool without which installing locks for braces is simply impossible;
  5. Positioner. Tool for adjusting and installing braces;
  6. Auxiliary equipment. This group includes Smach, Matthew and Hilgers clamp forceps. They are designed to grip, twist the ligature and apply bends to the ligature arch;
