Electric toothbrushes are very popular today and have a wide range among various manufacturers. Today we will introduce you to inexpensive models and prove that even among models under 3,000 rubles you can find high-quality and reliable oral care devices.

We will analyze 5 models of toothbrushes from the most popular manufacturers: Philips Sonicare CleanCare HX3292/28, Oral-B Pro 500 and Vitality 100, CS Medica SonicPulsar CS-131 and Revyline RL 010.

What do they have in common?

Built-in timer and interval counting

All brushes on our list have a built-in timer for 2 minutes. Every 30 seconds of brushing, the brush signals that it is time to move on to the next area of the oral cavity.

  • The CS Medica brush simply turns off after 2 minutes.
  • The Smartimer feature on Philips brushes will beep 2 minutes after brushing.
  • The Oral-B brush notifies you with a vibration signal: a short one to move to the next quarter of the teeth, a longer one to finish brushing.

Power type

Reviewed brushes from Philips, Oral-B, and CS-Medica are powered by a built-in nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery. The Revyline brush is powered by a lithium-ion battery (Li-Ion).

The first type of battery is considered environmentally friendly and works well at low temperatures. The second one does not have a memory effect and therefore it is possible to recharge the battery as needed. Also, lithium-ion batteries have a large capacity and can be quickly charged. But at the same time, they perform worse at low temperatures and have a limited service life.

Battery level indicator

All models have an indicator light. It starts blinking when it's time to charge the brush. The operating time from a full charge differs for each brush.

Are there any contraindications

You should not purchase such a device if there are the following contraindications:

  1. Pregnancy period.
  2. Wearing a pacemaker.
  3. Oncology.
  4. Benign tumors in the oral cavity.
  5. Initial stages of caries.
  6. Inflammation of the gums and mucous membranes of various types.
  7. The thinness of natural tooth enamel.
  8. Availability of fillings, dentures and veneers.

Philips Sonicare CleanCare+ HX3292/28

SoniCare's patented sonic cleaning technology achieves a special effect. The bristles make 31,000 sweeping movements per minute, creating a dynamic flow of fluid in the mouth that penetrates hard-to-reach places, including between teeth.

The brush has an additional Easy-start function, which will help you get used to it during the first 14 brushings - the intensity will gradually increase during this time.

Cleaning modes

1 mode for daily cleaning.

Nozzles included

Includes ProResults Gum Health attachment for improving gum health, whitening and polishing teeth. The brush is compatible with any Philips attachments.

Nozzle wear indicator

The blue bristles on the ProResults Gum Health head fade with use. For best results, the attachments should be changed every 3 months.

Working hours

Up to 17 days without recharging when brushing 2 times a day for 2 minutes.

Equipment

1 ProResults Gum Health standard size brush head and charger

Electric brushes from Philips have a large number of useful functions and cleaning modes, but almost all of them are installed in brushes of higher price categories. On the other hand, the movement speed in all models of the brand is the same - 31,000 movements per minute. So if you're looking for a simple, basic, single-mode brush and don't need any extra features, Philips' Sonicare CleanCare+ HX3292/28 will clean as well as more expensive models.

Can it negatively affect fillings?

Keep in mind! Ultrasonic vibrational waves are capable of penetrating deep into the tissues of the oral cavity by 4-5 mm.

This creates vibrations of various orthopedic structures installed on the teeth.

This problem affects not only braces, since any foreign materials differ in their physical properties from tooth tissue.

For this reason, during the passage of an ultrasonic wave, all artificial elements are subject to vibration.

As a , there is a gradual destruction of the connecting component with subsequent loss of the filling .

Oral-B Vitality 100 3D White D100

The Oral-B toothbrush is one of the most affordable rechargeable toothbrushes.
Working method

2D cleaning technology - 7600 reciprocating movements per minute.

Cleaning modes

Mode 1 - daily cleaning.

Nozzles included

1 3D White nozzle for gentle removal of stains from the surface of tooth enamel. In the center of the bristles there is a rubber cup that polishes the enamel. The brush fits all Oral-B brush heads. Other brushes in the Vitality series differ only in the attachment included: you just need to choose a brush with the attachment that suits you best.

Nozzle wear indicator

All Oral-B refill brush heads have blue indicator bristles - when they fade, this is a signal that you need to change the brush head.

Working hours

Up to 7 days without recharging the battery (when cleaning 2 times a day for 2 minutes).

Equipment

1 3D White nozzle and SmartPlug charger.

Oral-B Vitality 100 3D White is the most affordable model in our review. It is suitable for those who want to learn in practice what an electric toothbrush is and for those who do not need a large number of functions.

How to choose an electric toothbrush

Although an electric toothbrush is a product for everyday use, it is a medical product. Pavel Pisarev, dental therapist at the European Medical Center , gives valuable recommendations on how to move from manual to automatic.

On a note

It is important to choose the perfect toothpaste for an electric toothbrush.

Oral-B Pro 500 Cross Action D16

The electric brush from Oral-B is one of the most popular brushes for daily brushing. Suitable even for sensitive teeth and all types of structures: braces, veneers, implants.

The brush uses patented 3D technology - a combination of pulsations and reciprocating movements of a round cleaning head, which is also patented by Oral-B. She makes 20,000 pulsating and 8,800 reciprocating movements per minute.

Cleaning modes

Mode 1 - daily cleaning.

Nozzles

Includes 1 CrossAction attachment. The brush fits all Oral-B brush heads.

Nozzle wear indicator

The indicator blue bristles fade with use. Nozzles should be changed every 3 months.

Pressure meter

No.

Working hours

Up to 7 days without recharging the battery (when cleaning 2 times a day for 2 minutes).

Equipment

1 Cross Action attachment and SmartPlug charger.

Oral-B Pro 500 is not much more expensive than the Vitality 100 model, but is significantly superior to it in operating technology. The 3D method is more effective - in addition to reciprocating rotational movements, the nozzle also performs pulsations.

Are they suitable for children?

Ultrasonic toothbrush models are ideal for children .

You should know! With their help, the baby will be able to thoroughly clean the teeth and perform a light massage of the gums, which is necessary to increase the stability of periodontal tissues and stimulate metabolic processes.

Children can start using the device as early as five years of age under adult supervision.

All models of toothbrushes intended for children are designed taking into account the development of children's teeth. Therefore, children should not use adult hygiene devices.

CS Medica SonicPulsar CS-131

CS Medica SonicPulsar CS-131 is ideal for daily brushing of teeth. The main feature of the brush is the micro-USB connector on the body, through which it can be charged from the network or from a computer.

The brush works in 2 modes

  • Normal
(daily cleaning) - the bristles make 26,000 movements per minute.
  • Super
(intensive cleaning) - the bristles make 30,000 movements per minute.

The set includes 2 CS Medica SP-21 nozzles for daily cleaning.
Other CS Medica attachments are not suitable for this model. Equipment

  1. Electric brush CS Medica SonicPulsar CS-131.
  2. 2 nozzles.
  3. Protective cap for the nozzle.
  4. Case for storing brushes.
  5. USB cable.
  6. AC adapter.
  7. Stand.

CS Medica SonicPulsar CS-131 is similar in shape to Philips brushes, but differs in technology. The bristles move quickly, but not fast enough to achieve the effect of dynamic fluid flow in the mouth, so this brush is less intense than the Philips.

Nuances of choice

  • Thorough cleaning of the tooth surface is possible with a sufficient length of the working part - 2-2.5 cm. This size is designed to capture several teeth at the same time.
  • The head of the brush should be rounded so as not to injure the mucous membrane. The unevenness of the outer part provides additional hygiene.
  • The movable junction between the head and the handle puts moderate pressure on the crowns and gums.
  • The handle with rubber inserts makes the brush more comfortable to use and prevents it from slipping in your hands.

Need to consider:

  • Ultrasonic and ionic models greatly facilitate care, but are less accessible due to their high cost.
  • Electric ones effectively cope with the function of cleaning teeth. Do not use for gum diseases or unhealed sutures.
  • Manual ones are cheaper than others, but are effective only if the correct movements are performed.

Revyline RL 010

The Revyline RL 010 electric toothbrush provides deep and effective removal of plaque from the surface of the teeth.

The brush has a contactless induction charger with a USB output, which allows you to charge it from a laptop, battery or any other device.

Revyline RL 010 operates in 5 modes with 3 intensity levels.

  • Clean
    - for daily cleaning;
  • White
    - whitening mode;
  • Polish
    - enamel polishing;
  • Sensitive
    - care for sensitive enamel;
  • Massage
    - gum massage.

The set includes 3 standard attachments, each of which has its own designation for ease of use by the whole family: circle, square or triangle.
Equipment

  1. Toothbrush.
  2. Case for storage and transportation.
  3. Base with induction charging.
  4. Micro USB cable.
  5. Replacement nozzle - 3 pieces.

Revyline's brush technology is less intense than other brushes in the review. And the noise level is slightly higher than that of Philips and Oral-B.

What paste is recommended to use?

Some manufacturers produce special toothpastes with a gentle abrasive system.

It is these pastes that are recommended to be used in conjunction with an electric ultrasonic device.

Note! You can also use regular pastes that do not contain fine particles for daily oral care.

Experts advise purchasing toothpastes labeled “For electric toothbrushes” , having first studied the composition of the cleaning product.

It is desirable that the paste contains phosphorus and calcium, which help strengthen and whiten tooth enamel.

Working hours

We decided to check what the manufacturers say about operating time. The basis was a daily cleaning regimen of 2 minutes 2 times a day. The results may be surprising.

Working hours
ManufacturerTests
Philips Sonicare CleanCare+10 days17 days
Oral-B Pro 5007 days13 days
Oral-B Vitality 1007 days12 days
CS Medica SonicPulsar CS-131115 days
Revyline RL 01033 days

The main conclusion from the experiment is that the charge of any of these brushes is enough for a full vacation.
At the same time, the CS Medica SonicPulsar CS-131 and Revyline RL 010 brushes will remind you of the need to recharge much later than other models. As you can see, reliable and inexpensive electric toothbrushes can be purchased without sacrificing quality and cleaning efficiency. More expensive models have more useful extras. Among them are an expanded set of nozzles and cleaning modes, synchronization of the brush with a mobile application, artificial intelligence, a personal case, and a nozzle wear indicator that lights up when it’s time to replace it.

Conclusions -

As a dentist, I would not recommend using ultrasonic toothbrushes to my patients. And even if the choice of the Megasonex m8 toothbrush seems preferable to me (in comparison with the Emmi-Dent brushes), then I think that both of these brushes are absolutely not up to the quality of teeth cleaning - modern sonic brushes, and especially before Oral-B electric brushes. The latter are, in fact, a dentist’s instrument in miniature. Read more about them in the article linked below.

Dentists' opinions

Most dentists are of the opinion that ultrasonic brushes can effectively clean the oral cavity of plaque and have a positive effect on teeth and gums.

However, it is very important to follow the recommendations for proper use so as not to cause harm.

Reviews from dentists indicate that the use of an ultrasound device can improve the condition of the gums, minimizing their bleeding, lighten the enamel by several tones and reduce the risk of developing various periodontal diseases.
