Dentinox dental gel: instructions for use of the drug for children

Teething is not an easy period for a child, just like for his parents. The process is accompanied by severe discomfort, causing anxiety, itching of the gums, and sometimes even pain and fever. Modern pharmaceuticals have found ways to alleviate the condition. One of the effective drugs for eliminating discomfort during teething is Dentinox gel.

In the article we will discuss in detail the instructions for using the drug Dentinox for children, find out what the properties of the gel are, due to which it gives a positive effect. Let's find out how to use it, whether there are any restrictions on its use.

Don't self-medicate! Be sure to consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner. The information is for informational purposes only and does not replace medical care.

Use in pediatrics

The drug can be used if the child is already one year old. For children under one year of age, Dentinox gel is approved for use only in consultation with a doctor .

Dentinox is not entirely suitable for infants under 10 months of age, as it causes partial numbness of the tongue.

Due to this action, the baby may begin to choke on his own saliva, since his ability to swallow will be partially paralyzed.

In addition to this danger, increased secretion of saliva through the mouth can lead to irritation of the child's skin. Sometimes small children also bite their lips and tongue because they do not feel pain due to numbness.

Composition, release form

Dentinox is a combined composition that looks like a transparent, yellowish, slightly viscous mass.

When applied to the mucous membranes and skin, a clear cool, refreshing and cooling effect is felt, similar to freezing.

Contains chamomile, which has a bactericidal effect. This component is more than others: chamomile is responsible for the positive effect.

Chamomile relieves inflammation and has a disinfecting effect.

The product contains lidocaine , a pain reliever. The Dentinox component has a pronounced freezing effect. It also contains polidocanol, a local anesthetic.

Thanks to the targeted and coordinated effect of these three active components, Dentinox will quickly relieve your baby from suffering during teething.

In addition to the main ingredients listed, there are also auxiliary ones:

  • levomenthol with a cooling effect;
  • sodium hydroxide;
  • sorbitol and xylitol for a pleasant taste sensation;
  • propylene glycol for viscosity;
  • sodium edetate;
  • water and carbopol.

The product goes on sale in standard tubes made of medical aluminum. Each package includes detailed instructions for use.

pharmachologic effect

Dentinox® Gel N is a combined preparation that, along with a herbal component (tincture of chamomile flowers), which has an anti-inflammatory and soothing effect on gum irritation, also contains local anesthetics in a concentration approved for use in children and infants. Lidocaine provides a quick analgesic, but short-term effect, which occurs a few minutes after application of the drug to the gums. The analgesic effect of polidocanol occurs later, but is longer lasting. Together they have a quick and long-lasting effect at low dosages. The use of the drug ensures the eruption of the first teeth, all milk teeth, as well as molars without pain and complications. Dentinox ® Gel N prevents the occurrence of local inflammatory reactions, allows you to largely avoid gum irritation and the formation of excessive salivation. The xylitol and sorbitol contained in the preparation do not cause dental caries. Dentinox® Gel N does not contain preservatives or sugar.

Indications for use

It is used for short-term relief of pain during the eruption of the first teeth, all milk and molars, as well as to prevent inflammation and irritation of the gums.

Directions for use and doses

Using a clean finger or a clean cotton swab, apply a pea-sized drop of Dentinox ® Gel N to the area of the gum where the tooth is emerging and rub in lightly. Repeat the procedure 2-3 times a day, especially after meals and before bed. If necessary, use the drug during the entire period of eruption of baby teeth, and later molars.

Use during pregnancy and lactation

Since this drug is used exclusively to relieve pain during the first teething in children, there is no information on the use of this drug during pregnancy and lactation.

Precautionary measures

Contraindicated in patients with rare hereditary fructose intolerance. Avoid getting the drug in your eyes! Dentinox® Gel N is applied locally to the gums. When applied to the oral mucosa, local irritation is possible due to the presence of propylene glycol. This drug contains a small amount of ethanol (alcohol), less than 100 mg per dose, which is due to the active component of the drug - chamomile tincture, which is produced by extraction with ethanol. Caution should be exercised when using Dentinox® Gel N to patients with damage to the mucous membrane in the area of application, if it is larger in size than is usually observed during teething, since in this case increased systemic absorption is possible.

Properties and action

Dentinox is capable of simultaneously:

  • relieve pain;
  • eliminate germs;
  • relieve inflammation.

We note that it is safe for children : the gel does not penetrate the circulatory system, therefore it does not have a systemic effect on the body.

Due to the complete absence of sugars and preservatives, it does not harm the health of infants.

Has a pronounced analgesic effect. The gel can be used even when there is damage to the oral mucosa. The composition does not contain benzalkonium chloride, so the product will not cause harm in case of perforation of the mucous membrane.

Dentinox gel has a prolonged effect due to the carbopol contained in the composition. Compared to many other analogues, the period of positive impact is really excellent.

Disadvantages - weak anti-inflammatory effect in the presence of ulcerations on the child’s oral mucosa.

And in order to eliminate stomatitis, which often accompanies the process of teething, treatment with other drugs will be required.

Composition of the drug and its effect

As mentioned earlier, Dentinox gel contains substances such as lidocaine, chamomile extract and lauromacrogol-600. These are the active components of both forms of the drug. Excipients are represented mainly by sorbitol, xylitol, propylene glycol, carbomer (974 R), sodium hydroxide 10% solution, polysorbate 20, sodium edetate, sodium saccharin, menthol (levomenthol), purified water.

Lidocaine has an anesthetic effect on the teething areas. There is a slight freezing effect, which allows you to quickly relieve even intense pain in a baby. Together with lauromacrogol-600 it shows not only high efficiency, but also a prolonged effect.

Chamomile extract has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. This is a natural component of the drug that has a gentle effect on the mucous membranes. Its action is quite prolonged.

The component lauromacrogol 600 has a local anesthetic effect. This substance is well distributed over the surface of the oral mucosa. This action helps to provide a long-lasting therapeutic effect. Helps enhance the analgesic activity of lidocaine without developing negative effects.

It is prohibited to use the drug outside the oral cavity due to the ineffectiveness and lack of appropriate instructions that Dentinox contains.

The result of the complex effect is painless eruption of the first incisors and the molars that follow them. Dentinox dental gel helps prevent gum irritation, as well as inflammation of the oral mucosa. That is, it helps to prevent stomatitis and severe pain in the aftermath.

Traditionally, the medication is used to effectively stimulate tooth growth, as well as to prevent dental pathologies. Dentinox contains sweeteners that do not cause caries, but at the same time help facilitate the application process. Accordingly, the drug does not contribute to the destruction of enamel. Also, the product does not contain preservatives, and therefore is completely safe for the child’s body.

pros

Let's find out what the positive features of the product are.

Firstly, the composition does not contain sugars harmful to the baby’s body . To give the substance a pleasant taste, it included xylitol and sorbitol, which successfully cope with their task.

The product does not negatively affect the condition of children's first teeth.

It can also be used for irritated mucous membranes, since there are no additional irritating substances in the composition.

The analgesic effect is very pronounced, and the child calms down very quickly: a few minutes after applying the product. Thanks to lidocaine, the composition acts as a local anesthetic.

The product is non-toxic and does not create a sticky adhesive effect in the mouth. Can be used when a child is teething both milk and permanent teeth.

Indications and contraindications

The drug Dentinox is used in pediatrics to alleviate the condition of the baby during teething.

Relieves pain that often accompanies the eruption of baby and molar teeth. The product relieves inflammation, eliminates swelling of the gums and redness.

Cannot be used in the following cases:

  • in case of intolerance to components;
  • if you are sensitive or allergic to chamomile;
  • if the baby is not yet one year old.

We will talk about the effectiveness of other dental ointments:

  • Cholisal-gel - used for teething.
  • Kamistad - will help with diseases of the oral cavity.
  • Rox - used to strengthen, whiten teeth, and prevent caries.

Reviews about the drug

Reviews about Dentinox are mostly positive. They show the effectiveness of the product in teething in infants. Parents primarily noted the rapid action of the drug in terms of pain relief. They also noted effectiveness in the treatment of stomatitis in the complex treatment of pathology. But some negative points were also highlighted, including:

  1. Short exposure period in some cases. Some parents noted that if the pain is intense, then this drug can relieve pain only for a short time.
  2. Accordingly, the frequency of use was rated low - 3 times. If the analgesic component was insufficient, this drug had only a short effect with long periods of time when the child reacted violently to teething.
  3. Price. The price of the drug varies from 300 to 560 rubles, which is considered a fairly expensive price range for this type of product
  4. In rare cases, urticaria has been reported when using the medicine. This side effect was easily eliminated with an antihistamine. No serious side effects were found.

Doctors note the effectiveness of the drug, but recommend using it only when necessary. If the child feels normal, then the frequency of administration can be reduced to 1-2 times a day, for example, only at night or in the morning and evening.

How to use

Dentinox is very easy to use. Below we will provide a detailed diagram of the application of this drug.

Dry the gums a little with a sterile cloth. This is done so that the drug is not immediately swallowed and has time to exert its beneficial effect.

Squeeze out a small portion from the tube, about the size of a pea. Then a cotton swab or a clean finger is dipped into the mixture and the product is applied to the child’s gums.

The baby should not drink or eat for five minutes after the procedure: this measure will help the drug stay on the gums longer so that the components have time to take effect.

Apply the product three times a day , no more. The optimal time for the procedure is after meals and at night. The duration of the course is not limited: Dentinox can be used as long as the child is teething.

How to apply

Dentinox is usually applied two to three times daily unless otherwise directed by your doctor. Application time: at night, after eating and drinking.

The application scheme is as follows:

  • the gums need to be dried with a gauze swab or napkin;
  • squeeze a little gel onto your finger;
  • Use a cotton swab or your finger to apply the product to the child’s gums, rubbing it in.

Attention! If you missed the application, then next time a double dose of the product is unacceptable: apply the drug as usual.

Features of the drug

No negative or positive interactions of the drug with other medications have been reported. But when using other local remedies, it is necessary to maintain a pause of 15 minutes between medications. Using all medications together may reduce their effectiveness and increase the risk of side effects.

This drug is not used if the child has fructose intolerance, which is a hereditary disease. If there were patients with this pathology in the family, then it is necessary to undergo preliminary diagnostics to identify the disease. It is worth noting that analogues are used for this diagnosis. Also not used if Dentinox is contraindicated.

Sorbitol is contained in the preparation. In terms of indicators, it corresponds to a quarter of a gram of fructose. For 10g of gel, its amount is less than 0.1 bread unit. The calorie content of the substance was 2.6 kcal/g of component. When applied to the mucous membranes of the mouth, local areas of irritation may appear due to the presence of propylene glycol in the composition.

The drug is stored at temperatures below +25 degrees. Be sure to keep it away from children, as they may swallow the entire amount of the product due to the taste. If the expiration date has expired, it is prohibited to use this medicine, as its effectiveness and safety will be in doubt.

Analogues of the drug are Novocaine, Lidocaine, Kalgel, Bupivacaine Grindeks. These are all non-structural analogues, that is, their composition does not coincide or does not coincide completely. To select a specific drug, you must first consult with your doctor about contraindications and patterns of use.

When will the effect take place?

The composition has the taste and smell of chamomile and is quite pleasant, so the baby lets you apply it calmly.

The positive analgesic effect occurs quickly and lasts approximately two hours. Some parents find this period of time too short, but for minor discomfort the drug may be helpful. The gel has a calming effect: after applying it, children fall asleep well.

If Dentinox does not have the expected positive effect, you should consult your pediatrician. Most likely, the specialist will prescribe a different drug.

Side effects

The gel is theoretically capable of causing allergic reactions of the following nature:

  • burning sensation;
  • skin rashes of diathesis type;
  • irritation of the oral mucosa.

In severe cases, Quincke's edema is possible.

If any allergic reaction occurs, application should be stopped immediately. Then rinse the gums with water and consult a doctor.

If you use the composition in recommended doses, the likelihood of side effects is extremely low.

An overdose increases the effect of the medicine: severe numbness of the tongue may develop, and swallowing becomes difficult.

Saliva is produced abundantly : there is a danger that the baby may choke. It is important to prevent abuse of this drug.

What you need to know about Dentinox

This medicine does not cause severe side effects. In general, the product is considered absolutely safe for teeth that have already erupted and for those that are just preparing to erupt. The drug does not violate the integrity of the enamel, and therefore is not capable of causing caries and other similar phenomena. It serves as a prophylactic against inflammatory pathologies such as stomatitis, and also as part of therapy to alleviate the course of the disease.

No cases of overdose have been recorded. But due to the presence of certain components, it is impossible to exceed the thresholds specified by the manufacturer, since some substances can cause bronchospasm, cardiac arrest, and angioedema. Such conditions are fraught with death.

It is noted that use in the form of a gel has a more prolonged effect than in the form of a solution, since the gel is distributed over the surface of the mucous membrane and lingers on it. This allows you to treat the painful gum area for longer. But you should understand that if you overdo it with the drug, the anesthesia can affect the tissues of the larynx and pharynx, which can lead to difficulty swallowing.

We should also talk about age restrictions. At what age can Dentinox be used? Despite the fact that the medicine is used in infants, for children under one year of age a doctor’s consultation is required. This will help prevent the development of unwanted side effects due to intolerance to the drug and its components. If these appear, you should consult a doctor. In case of emergency, call an ambulance.
