Aquafresh toothpastes with dispenser, children's and whitening: description and features

How does Aquafresh toothpaste differ from other toothpastes?

At first, the brand produced toothpastes that prevented bleeding gums and caries, but today, under the Aquafresh brand, a wide range of oral care products is produced: several types of toothbrushes, rinses, toothpastes for prevention and treatment, as well as White Trays whitening gel strips , released already in February 2007. There is also Aquafresh toothpaste with a dispenser.

If we talk about toothpastes of this brand, they are all multi-component in their composition, but the base always includes three ingredients: a binary fluoride system, calcium carbonate and calcium glycerophosphate.

Today the company can offer a large selection of products, including several types of toothpastes.

You can immediately watch the video version of the review or read the article with a photo report. And don’t forget to look at the second part of our honest review of this toothpaste, it’s on the page below.

The packaging is familiar to most, thanks to the proprietary design of Aquafresh toothpaste, and it is immediately stated that it has protection against “sugar acid” (literal translation of the inscription on the bottom right of the package). Of course, it is designed to increase buyer confidence in the product, but in reality not everything is so rosy, as you will learn from the review.

To make it even more convincing, the manufacturer added inscriptions to the box and tube: healthy gums, strong teeth, fresh breath. Looking ahead, I would like to say that only the latter can somehow correspond to reality. The remaining inscriptions should not be taken into account, because the most important is the composition, which will be discussed below.

Packaging and tube of Aquafresh refreshing mint toothpaste

The box with the tube is sealed

We unpacked and took out a tube of Aquafresh illuminating-mint toothpaste

For a little over $1.5, we got a tube volume of 100 ml. Of the certificates on the box, EAC is indicated - on Eurasian compliance with technical regulations. It is also indicated that the tube is intended for packaging cosmetics (12M); the circular arrows indicate the possibility of subsequent processing of the packaging.

The EAC certificate does not indicate high quality of the product. And that: toothpaste does not contain prohibited substances, harmful or dangerous substances, and does not contain more than a certain percentage of the volume of the product. In other words, the EAC certificate simply provides a guarantee that: the product cannot cause fatal or irreparable harm to human health.

The benefits of toothpaste?! The question remains open and we will try to close it. Some people will no longer read, because such “quality” will be enough for them; for others, it’s absolutely not. It's up to you to decide. You can read more about certification and compliance with technical regulations to obtain them at.

The next important point is the country of production. In the case of Aquafresh refreshing mint toothpaste, the Slovak Republic is located, or rather, the production is located in Levice, judging by the information on the box. It is difficult to form even a general subjective opinion about the quality of goods from this country, because... We do not know about other companies from this country. Therefore, the main guideline will be the composition, although all our reviews place the main emphasis on the composition.

Country of origin of toothpaste: Slovak Republic

Next, perhaps the most important point to which we pay special attention is the composition. And it includes: Aqua, Hydrated Silica, Sorbitol, Glycerin, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Xanthan Gum, Aroma, Titanium Dioxide, PEG-6, Sodium Fluoride, Sodium Saccharin, Carrageenan, Limonene, Cl 73360 (red), Cl 74160 ( blue). Contains sodium fluoride. Mass fraction of fluoride 0.145%.

Composition Aquafresh refreshing mint

Now let's look at each of the components and how they affect human health:

  • Aqua is ordinary water, and the question here is what quality it was used in production;
  • Hydrated Silica - hydrated silicon dioxide - is safe for health in small doses;
  • Sorbitol - sorbitol - safe for health;
  • Glycerin - glycerin - is safe for health, but in cheap toothpastes, as in our case, animal origin can be used;
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate - Sodium lauryl sulfate - used to form foam, a substance harmful to the body, described in more detail in a separate article;
  • Xanthan Gum - xanthan gum/resin - thickener, safe for human health;
  • Aroma - flavoring, most likely of synthetic origin;
  • Titanium Dioxide - titanium dioxide is a contrast agent with good whitening properties. It is used to give cosmetics a white color and light resistance; if the raw materials are cheap, it is harmful to health;
  • PEG-6 - emulsifier - if the raw material is not purified, then this substance turns into a carcinogen;
  • Sodium Fluoride - sodium fluoride - according to manufacturers, is needed to strengthen enamel, but it can lead to problems with the cardiovascular system, fluorosis or death, the lethal dose for a person weighing 70 kg is 5-10 grams;
  • Sodium Saccharin - sodium saccharin - a cheap artificial sweetener, 300-500 times sweeter than sugar, this substance is banned or restricted for use in many countries, leads to various health problems, the permissible daily dose is 5 mg per 1 kg of human body weight;
  • Carrageenan - a stabilizer - causes inflammatory processes, including the gastrointestinal tract, and other diseases, including atherosclerosis; Limonene - a flavoring and disinfectant component - can cause allergies;
  • Limonene - a flavoring and disinfectant component - can cause allergies;
  • Cl 73360 (red), Cl 74260 (green), Cl 74160 (blue) - synthetic dyes - can accumulate in the body, cause allergies and other health problems, have not been fully studied.

The next part of the packaging tells us that it contains fluoride. It’s good that manufacturers were required to indicate how much it contains in toothpaste. But even the very presence of fluoride should discourage buyers from buying such toothpaste. Why?! The thing is that fluoride replaces calcium in bone tissue. This leads to their fragility.

If you touch your teeth, fluoride changes the color of your teeth, makes them brittle and leads to fluorosis. Not immediately, but naturally as you use such toothpastes.

Expiration date of toothpaste until 04.2019

The expiration date is indicated on the seam of the tube and ends on 04/2019.

Tube with multi-colored toothpaste

Tube of Aquafresh refreshing mint toothpaste without sealing. This is not necessary, because The packaging is well sealed on both sides and if it was opened, it is unlikely that it will be easy to hide. The smell is minty and, as is often the case with most toothpastes, it feels like mint is added to mask the taste and smell of the composition.

Pack of pH strips and pH strip for toothpaste testing

Testing toothpaste using pH strips. This is due to the fact that the pH balance in the body directly affects human health, the development of diseases, harmful bacteria and microorganisms. And if you use toothpastes with a poor or average pH, this will put extra stress on the body, which is forced to restore the acid-base balance after each brushing. In addition, an upset balance is an excellent environment for the proliferation of harmful bacteria.

Toothpaste applied to pH strip

Apply a little toothpaste to the pH strip and wait 1 minute, according to the instructions. After this, we compare the result on the strip with the control marks on the packaging with the strips.

Let's compare the result with the control marks

The result is difficult to determine, but most likely closer to mark 6. This indicates that the quality of the product is low, in our case toothpaste, and it is better not to use such a product. Of course, such a product will not cause serious damage, but it will contribute to the development of health problems every time it is used.

Is fluoride normal?

Fluorine is a vital element for the body. It is especially important that adequate amounts of fluoride enter the human body, since it is a component of tooth enamel. With insufficient or excessive fluoride consumption, the formation of tooth enamel is disrupted and dental diseases develop. With a lack of fluoride, caries occurs. With an excess of fluoride, fluorosis occurs (first, white spots appear on the teeth, then yellow and brownish, and then the bones are affected).

, Blend-a-med , Lacalut and Aquafresh
toothpastes contained the most fluoride , while ROCS had none.
In the labeling on the tube of Splat Professional toothpaste, however, in fact, fluoride was found in the amount indicated on the secondary packaging - the box in which the tube is enclosed. Such labeling, which contradicts itself, is a serious violation. According to experts, the fluorine content in none of the samples exceeds the level allowed by technical regulations. (Technical Regulations of the Customs Union TR CU 009/2011 “On the safety of perfumery and cosmetic products”). It is worth noting that the benefits of fluoridation of toothpastes are questioned by some doctors.

Is fluoride in toothpaste harmful or beneficial?

Andrey Mosov, head of the expert direction of NP Roskontrol, doctor: “The need for fluoride for the formation of tooth enamel is not questioned by any of the specialists: they only argue about whether fluoride enters the body through local penetration into the dental tissue or with a small amount of dental paste that is swallowed when brushing your teeth. One way or another, the preventive and even therapeutic effect of fluoridated toothpastes in relation to dental caries can be considered proven. Toothpaste without fluoride is necessary only in those regions where there is an excess of fluoride in drinking water - for example, in some settlements in the Moscow region. You can find out about the situation specifically in your area of residence at the dental clinic or the local Rospotrebnadzor office. If we talk about Moscow, where the water supply is from a surface source - river water, poor in fluoride - then the use of toothpastes with fluoride is mandatory here.”

Children's toothpaste "Aquafresh"

Aquafresh Kids toothpastes help children's teeth grow healthy. Baby teeth look very cute. But it should be remembered that their enamel is 50% thinner than that of adults. The baby's first tooth has erupted, so we begin to teach him to brush. Just like adults, baby teeth are brushed 2 times a day, and then they will be strong and healthy for a long time. Aquafresh Kids toothpastes contain fluoride, which strengthens and protects teeth from sugar, which contributes to the development of caries. These toothpastes have a pleasant minty taste that children like, which also contributes to their high demand.

Aquafresh toothpastes have many advantages: the product quality is impeccable, there are no counterfeits, the composition is enriched with minerals, the paste contains a binary fluoride system that helps protect tooth enamel from acids.

And also some consumers noted that this toothpaste has an affordable price, it will be affordable for everyone. The products produced by this brand are absolutely safe for humans, they can be used for small children.

The best toothpaste for caries: how to choose

It is worth saying that there is no separate class of “medicinal toothpastes for caries.” Almost 90% of products of this type contain fluoride. It is the main component that helps prevent the development of carious processes. However, the concentration of this substance in a particular toothpaste may vary.

Pastes with a fluorine content of about 1000 ppm have a moderate preventive effect. If this component is contained in a volume of 1450 ppm, the product can be classified as a therapeutic and prophylactic type. To treat teeth for the purpose of remineralization of enamel, pastes with a fluoride concentration of 5000 ppm are used. However, such compositions can only be used for their intended purpose.

The anti-caries effect is achieved if the toothpaste, in addition to fluoride, contains the following components:

  • Calcium. If there is not enough of this substance in the enamel, it becomes more vulnerable to caries. Therapeutic paste with calcium helps restore the balance of minerals and prevent the development of the disease or stop it at the initial stage.
  • Antiseptics (for example, chlorhexidine). They are not present in every toothpaste. Such compositions are recommended for people with irregular oral hygiene.
  • Abrasives and hydrogen peroxide, which have a whitening effect and remove plaque from enamel. Therapeutic toothpastes with similar components can be harmful in case of advanced caries. In general, dentists recommend caution when using products with abrasive components. They are contraindicated for use in cases of increased tooth sensitivity and enamel abrasion.
  • Natural components. Such pastes are suitable for sensitive gums and teeth in the cervical area (near the gums). A carious process can develop in this area of the jaw. If you treat your gums, reduce their sensitivity and eliminate bleeding, you can prevent tooth decay.

A good anti-caries paste should have a uniform structure and a pleasant smell. If it contains foreign grains or foreign components, it is better not to use it. It is also important that the paste is easily squeezed out of the tube and distributed evenly over the bristles of the toothbrush. If it is too thick or, on the contrary, liquid, then most likely it does not meet the quality requirements. After twisting the tube, the composition should not harden. If the cap sticks to the threads, the paste may contain some harmful or unknown components.

Now we’ll tell you which specific toothpastes are suitable for caries prevention.
