Design features of Colgate electric brushes
At first glance, Colgate electric brushes look similar to models from other manufacturers. Formally, this is true, but Colgate products are still different in some respects.
Let's take a closer look at the distinctive features of Colgate devices in accordance with how the manufacturer positions them:
- ergonomic handle with anti-slip coating: it not only fits comfortably in the hand, but also allows you to regulate the force with which a person presses the head of the product on the teeth and gums. The geometry of the handle allows you to absorb some of this pressure, protecting the delicate tissues of the oral cavity,
- bristles located at different levels and at different angles: unequal lengths are required to clean different areas. The thinnest, cone-shaped bristles are needed to clean gums and the space between teeth. Rubber bristles remove plaque from the enamel and polish it. Long hairs reach the farthest teeth and hard-to-reach places,
- the rubber pad gently removes soft bacterial deposits and contaminants from the entire inner surface of the oral mucosa,
- movable head: it makes about 20 thousand rotations per minute, which allows you to effectively fight plaque on teeth,
- special intelligent system: it is not present in all models. It has special sensors to maintain optimal operating speed or inform that sufficient cleaning has been done (operation timer).
Brush technology
Round head brushes (like Oral-B) have bristles that move in a back-and-forth motion. Brushes with an oblong head (like Philips) have sweeping movements of the bristles.
Both of these technologies are equally effective, but differ in the feel and cleaning method. Those who want to get rid of stubborn plaque will like Oral-B. For people who are more familiar with the classic shape of the nozzle, Philips brushes are suitable.
Brushes with reciprocating movements
The reciprocating rotational movements of the round attachments allow the brush to cover the entire tooth and clean it evenly from all sides. There are brushes with a combination of reciprocating and pulsating movements (3D technology from Oral-B).
We love these three brushes - they're affordable and have good performance.

Brushes with sweeping movements
All Philips Sonicare brushes have a bristle speed of 31,000 movements per minute, regardless of the model. The brush creates a dynamic flow of liquid in the mouth, which penetrates even the most inaccessible places.
Brushes with an oblong nozzle from other brands also work on the principle of sweeping movements, but with a different number of movements per minute.

Types of heads for Colgate electric toothbrushes
There are two ways to remove plaque from teeth: either by cleaning it off mechanically or by “breaking it” using vibrations. Therefore, Colgate electric brushes come in two types: with a rotating or vibrating head.
Devices with a rotating head have two types of bristles. The first type is stationary bristles; they serve to clean off easily removable surface plaque. The second type is bristles that perform rotational movements at a given interval. They provide effective removal of bacteria and the most stubborn plaque from hard-to-reach areas.
The principle of operation of designs with a vibrating head is slightly different: plaque removal occurs thanks to pulsating bristles. This allows you not only to clean the crowns from dirt, but also to massage the gums, providing blood supply to the mucous membrane.
Important! A motor is hidden inside each device, which triggers a rotating or pulsating movement of the head, but if you turn off the motor, the Colgate electric brush can be used as a regular one and mechanically clean your teeth. Travelers can appreciate this feature, because batteries cannot always be replenished on time.
Brushes as a gift
People often buy toothbrushes from us as gifts. And when it comes to a gift, design becomes an important selection criterion. Men, as a rule, choose black brushes as a gift, girls - brighter ones. We have collected the best gift ideas below.
Oral-B Smart 4 4000N Black edition D601.525.3
Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Amethyst HX9372/04

This model has all the advantages of the white model, which we wrote about above in the “Brushes with several operating modes” section.
Revyline RL 010 Pink

Types of Colgate electric brushes for adults
The model range is small. There are only two varieties1 available for adults and two for children. First, let's look at the devices that adults are encouraged to use.
1. Colgate 360° (“Colgate super clean entire oral cavity”)
This brush is equipped with a unique double head, the parts of which move in opposite directions (clockwise and counterclockwise). It cleanses teeth and gums. A special rubberized pad is used to clean the tongue; it also helps to get rid of dirt from the inside of the cheeks. In addition, all devices of the Colgate 360 system have medium-hard bristles of different lengths, which helps to reach even the most remote places.
Interesting! The head of the nozzle of this device is 20 times faster than a manual classic brush in terms of frequency of movements. Where a person's hand makes one movement, the Colgate device makes 20.
Double rotation is used to increase the efficiency of hygiene procedures, but in addition to the moving part, the accessory also has a static one, which allows you to simultaneously brush teeth of different sizes that are located nearby (for example, incisors and canines): while the head is fighting plaque on one surface, The static brush “sweeps away” the removed plaque from the crown.
Pros of this model:
- Powered by 2 AAA batteries, which is convenient on the road,
- There is a pad for cleansing the cheeks and tongue,
- nozzle with replaceable head,
- the handle has a special non-slip coating,
- sold in any pharmacy, has a simple manual,
- affordable price: from 500 rubles.
Disadvantages of this model:
- Suitable only for adults and children over 12 years of age (or those who have already had a complete change from primary to permanent dentition),
- There are no markers that can be used to mark the removable attachment. This makes it impossible to use one device with different attachments for all family members,
- there is no attachment for enamel whitening,
- there are no different modes of use, including for massage of the mucous membrane,
- there is no pressure regulator on the teeth, as well as a timer,
- The kit does not include a stand, a container for storing attachments and for carrying a brush.
Colgate 360° Optic White (“Colgate Optic White” with vibrating bristles)
From the name of the device it is clear what its manufacturers focus on. Clinical trials conducted by Colgate have proven that it is the vibrating movements of the bristles, coupled with medium-hard bristles, that make it possible to soften even plaque that has turned into tartar, and then effectively remove it. In addition to vibrating bristles, the brush also contains polishing bristles, which make the surface of the crown smoother, which reduces the formation of plaque on it and makes it easier to remove if it does appear for some reason.
On a note! Manufacturers of some types of toothbrushes and toothpastes claim that their product will effectively help remove tartar and whiten enamel, but professional dentists are skeptical about this claim. In fact, you shouldn’t expect a really good result, because only doctors can remove hard tartar and whiten enamel by more than 1-2 shades using office procedures, and various brushes and pastes can only maintain the result and cope with soft deposits.
An important point is that the Colgate Optic White device has a whitening mode. The special structure of the bristles allows you to fight stains on the enamel, removing them carefully and irrevocably. For comparison, the Colgate Optic White head makes as many movements in a minute as a human hand would make in an hour and a half.
The vibrations of the head, according to the manufacturer, do an excellent job not only of removing tartar, they also massage the gums, ensuring tissue blood flow. According to a study, people who use Colgate Optic White toothbrushes have 4 times less gum disease than those who use regular ones.
Pros of this model:
- there are whitening bristles that effectively remove stains from enamel, which is important for smokers and coffee lovers,
- the device cleans not only the tongue, but also the gums, the inside of the cheeks, removing germs from the entire oral cavity,
- the structure of the handle makes the cleaning process comfortable,
- One AAA battery is used for operation,
- affordable price: from 480 rubles.
Disadvantages of this model:
- This brush cannot be used to clean baby teeth, because the enamel on them is thinner and there is a high risk of injuring it,
- there is no delicate cleaning mode, as well as a separate massage mode (vibrating heads, although they stimulate the gums, still do not produce a full massage),
- there is no pressure sensor, as well as an indicator of discharge and wear of the bristles,
- There is no timer or display, so you have to calculate and control the procedure time yourself,
- There are no containers for attachments or a case for transporting and storing the brush itself.
Smart brushes and their capabilities
Artificial intelligence is increasingly spreading into our lives, making daily tasks easier and more enjoyable. These technologies have not bypassed electric brushes. The largest manufacturers have created brushes that work in conjunction with a mobile application. If we draw an analogy, it’s like a personal fitness trainer. Teeth brushing trainer only.

Types of electric brushes for children
For children, the presented models are identical in their functionality and design features. The only difference is that one device is designed in a style that girls will like - this is the Colgate Barbie for girls. The second option will appeal to boys - this is Colgate Spider-Man for boys.
The design of these models is suitable for children over three years old. The brush has a small head with super-soft bristles that do not damage the thin surface of baby teeth and delicate mucous membranes. However, thanks to the vibrating movements, the bristles clean the interdental spaces well and remove plaque from the crowns. The handle is comfortable for a child's palm, and the start and stop buttons are large enough so that the child does not miss. In addition, the device is painted with children’s favorite cartoon characters, which will make this hygiene item not only noticeable, but also loved.
The advantages of these models:
- toothbrushes are powered by a pair of AAA batteries, which makes them convenient not only at home, but also when traveling,
- bright design and clear intuitive controls allow the child to quickly master this accessory,
- the affordable price will please parents (cost - from 680 rubles).
Disadvantages of these models:
- a non-replaceable head that only vibrates without making rotational movements,
- there is no mode for delicate care and massage,
- there is no pressure sensor, which is important for a child who is just learning how to perform oral hygiene and cannot yet calculate his strength,
- the device does not have charging and wear indicators, as well as a timer that helps maintain the correct cleaning time,
- there is no stand for the device, no container for attachments and for its transportation,
- Changing the battery is inconvenient due to the tight lock and weak plastic case, which can break.
